BUILDING GOOD RELATIONS
Aim
This introductory course is designed to help individuals learn the best ways for living together in the same place with people who are different. The course enables understanding and participation in building good relations locally and among work colleagues.
There is a wide variety of topics to choose from including understanding divided societies / self-awareness and experience of difference / cultural traditions / the media / community relations in work / education / ethnic diversity / housing / etc. Topics are chosen to suit the needs of the group and with sensitivity to the current issues of concern in the area from which participants are drawn. Specialised speakers will be invited to give an input on some topics.
Objectives
Understand how conflict is handled personally and within society
Recognise the impact of local or national initiatives on Good Relations
Understand the impact of cultural identity
Recognise the challenges to building Good Relations
Who is the course for?
This course is generally offered in partnership with local colleges. It is suitable for individuals or groups with a community interest and for local government personnel, community workers and development workers, youth leaders, facilitators, etc.
Duration
This course is available over ten (2 1/2 hour) sessions. The format of the sessions includes group discussion. There are also facilitated sessions with invited speakers and a visit where appropriate. To receive OCN accreditation at Level Two, participants engage in group discussions and complete a learning portfolio.
