Building Good Relations
An introductory course to help individuals learn about difference and to share their own experience. The course encourages understanding and participation in building good relations locally and among work colleagues. Best learning gained when participants reflect a broad spectrum of backgrounds:
There are four areas of study covered within each BUILDING GOOD RELATIONS course:
- Formation – looking at the way personal/group identity is shaped within a divided society
- Conflict – examining the way conflict is handled personally and within society
- Challenges to Building Good Relations – considering the obstacles to peace in society
- Efforts to Build Good Relations – providing an opportunity to examine peace work that has an impact on the local community of participants
THIS IS A TEN SESSION COURSE (each session lasts approximately 2 ½ hours). Participants choose ten topics from a selection provided by Mediation Northern Ireland

- Cultural Traditions
- The Churches
- Mediation and Conflict
- The Media
- Local Peacebuilding efforts
- Political Developments
- Needs of Victims
- What is Justice
- Community Relations in work
- Ethnic Issues
- Education
- Housing
Topics are chosen to suit the needs of the group with sensitivity to the current issues of concern in the area from which participants are drawn.
The format of each session includes some form of stimulus (from facilitator or speaker) and group discussion, supported by handouts or other material where necessary.
